Swaziland is very photographic so bring along plenty of batteries and memory cards (who uses film anymore?). Photographic supplies are available in the main centre’s but may be pretty scarce in the more remote areas. If you like taking portraits it is usually a good idea to ask before you take a picture of someone. Some Swazis are a bit touchy about getting snapped without permission, especially elderly people and occasionally, refusal should be accepted graciously.
As is usually the case the best time to photograph is in the late afternoon. This golden hour is much beloved by photographers for its warm light that infuses everything with a soft glow. Interestingly, the Swazi people have a specific expression that refers to this period between 3 and 5 pm which is "selibantfu bahle" and means everyone looks beautiful.
